Garden Layout

I spent a lot of time yesterday (too much time, considering all the things I needed to get done and didn't) planning my garden layout in Excel. I spent an equal amount of time figuring out how to make it a JPG file so I could post it.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to make it large enough to see but still fit in the frame of the blog, so I guess I won't be able to post it right now. But at least I can say that I have created a layout for my garden!

I'm not following traditional SFG recommendations in that my garden is going to be 6' x 6', rather than 4' x 4' as recommended in the book. This is because the pergola posts are spaced that way. I know that I could simply fill the bed but use only 4' x 4' of squares within that space, and I probably will do something along those lines. It will be hard for me to reach the very center of the bed, so my plan is to plant marigolds in that section. Great for companion planting, and not something I need to reach frequently. Also, I'm going to stagger planting for some crops (everything but the squashes, peppers, canteloupe, and tomato) so some blocks might be empty at different times in the growing season. I hope that will help prevent the garden from turning into an overwhelming experience.
